The inaugural ceremony of island wide distribution of coconut distribution programs by mobile phones was held at the Battaramulla Coconut Cultivation Board premises at 10.00 am on Monday, by the Minister of Water Supply and Drainage, Navin Dissanayake.
This program is implemented island wide under the guidance of the Kapruka Fund Board established under the Coconut Cultivation Board. Lorries were provided for the Kapruka Societies registered with the Kapruka Fund.
The aim of this service is to provide consumers with coconut distribution at the control prices and provide a good price for the cultivator. These mobile phones purchase coconuts at higher prices and, instead of intermediaries, directly sells coconuts at controlled prices.
The coconut seedlings and coconut fertilizer recommended by the Coconut Research Institute are also available at reasonable prices. Shells and husks are also purchased from the mobile service. The raw material can be supplied to the coconut related industry and the customer will be able to earn extra income.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Plantation Industries Janaka Dahanayake, Principal Ministry officials, Coconut Cultivation Board Chairman Kapila Yakandawala and senior officials.
